Manlio De Monte
Italy Battlefield Tours
Manlio was born and raised in Udine, Italy, in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Growing up it was therefore a natural fact of life to develop an appreciation for good wines, good cuisine and his beautiful Italy. He was educated in the classics, with an emphasis on history, literature, philosophy, and European architecture history.
Having served in the Army’s Mountain Troops for several years, his love for history, notably military history, grew as time went by. He is therefore deeply passionate and knowledgeable about both the Great War and the Second World War, which indelibly shaped the course of history in his region. His Friulian upbringing spurred him to deepen his knowledge and desire to share historical information, with a distinctive accent on the Great War events along the Italian front, which took place extensively in the very region where he was born, often underestimated, misunderstood if not downright forgotten. An avid reader, whenever he’s not busy playing with his dog, Matix, he enjoys travelling throughout Europe and other continents with his wife Audrey.
